Madje fell twice and had hip surgery two times, one for each hip. The first time she had partial hip replacement and the second time, she cracked her hip so the surgeon used screws to secure the hip in place. I was working out of the country on this second surgery.  I’m not doctor but I would be careful about using screws to secure an old person’s hip because she fell again and the screws shifted but she was too old for surgery.  And so for the rest of her life, she felt pain.  This is when family members really need to examine options and not be bullied by doctors.  Nothing against doctors, we love them, but they are there as advisors.  You still get to call the shots if you do the research. After her second surgery and spending 2 or 3 weeks in a rehab hospital, where I spent most of my time, too, the day came for her to go to the doctor and be x-rayed, to see how the healing of her surgery was coming along. She was transported in a van from the rehab facility. She had to be strapped in the back in her wheelchair for safety but the trip terrified her.  I had to sit in the front of the van so I turned around to soothe her.  It killed me to see how frightened she was, how unsure where she was going, what was going to happen, because it was beyond the time when these things could be explained and understood.
